I just bought a Totoro hat for Maggie from this etsy shop. She is OBSESSED with My Neighbor Totoro (Japanese trailer). It is seriously the cutest movie. Check it out. J got us stuck on a private NO TRESPASSING road the other day. He won the big fat "I told you so" award for the day : )

Good thing he had a charged cell phone with coverage out in the middle of the refuge. 4 hours later a tow company finally agreed to pull us out. (She doesn't have clothes b/c she completely bit it in the middle of the mud)

All in all it was a fun family adventure filled with mud, frogs, birds, coyotes and a tow bill.

Check out this clip of two Great Whites off of San Onofre State Beach. I want this guy on my team. Seriously, he doesn't even say one little curse word and he's on a PADDLE BOARD! It gets good at like 1:05.

We were hanging out at this exact spot two days later. The guys were even out surfing. Noah's hair would not have been wet had I seen this video before we went ; ) Hmmm. Maybe that is why that seal was swimming so close to the shore...

I take a ton of pictures, but have only ordered ONE set from my massive Shutterfly lot in the last 3+years. Sad. J got me an Instax camera for my birthday and I love finally holding real pictures in my hand. We took it to the sunday school class we teach and the 11 year olds had a blast getting their class mugshots. It takes awhile to get used to, and you still never really know what you are going to get, but it is some serious instant gratification fun.

Late the other night J and I were sitting watching a movie when all of a sudden both of my eyes started feeling really strange. I ran to the bathroom to check it out and there I saw the white's of my eyes bulging past the colored part. WHAT THE!!!!!!! I thought either my brain was swelling and pushing my eyes out or that I was having a stroke (?) or going blind. I ran and got the "not-at-all eye doc" I married and he said b/c it came on so suddenly it was probably an allergic reaction. I took some benadryl and we decided to race to the ER (thank you Bonnie!!!- our friend and neighbor who was over in a flash to sit with our sleeping kids). Lucky for me, the "not-at-all eye doc" I married still happens to be a doctor who works in that very ER and we were in and out of there in under 3hrs (great for that time of night). They said it was chemosis-an allergic reaction to something. They irrigated my eyes, tested the ph, and stained them to check for abrasions. What was I allergic to? No clue. But, Jordan, I will go on a super freaky rather expensive date with YOU anytime.

Yesterday I was triple checking to see if our loan could be owned by FannieMae (nope) and I almost died laughing when I saw the randomized word verification that popped up... "consider revenge". Doesn't really seem like the sort of idea you want to be throwing out there these days on a website dealing with people's home loans.

N loves monster trucks. One of our most beloved netflix movies is the History Channel's presentation of Monster Trucks. So, when J found out the monster trucks were coming to Angel Stadium he knew it was on. Me, not so much. Hadn't J seen those things jumping over stadium barriers? Didn't he pay attention when the show eplained they had a remote control to shut off the truck if it got out of control (implying they get out of control!!!!). fighting fighting...I lost, and I'm glad I did. Just look at Noah's face.

Birthday and a Blackout

Girlfriend turned ONE this week! To celebrate, she is trying our her new-found skills. I thought she was safe in her high chair just eating a cracker so I turned my back to start dinner when all of a sudden Noah started clapping-"Hooray for Maggie!!!" There she was, kneeling in the middle of the table bouncing to Noah's praises-FREAK! She must have squirmed out of her highchair, onto the tray, and crossed the chasm between her highchair and the kitchen table in less than a minute. She may turn out to be more like her brother than we previously thought (sigh and hooray).

Before the birthday festivities, we were out of power for 24+ hours b/c of the storms. As I was reading from my John Adams book, the lack of electricity almost made me feel like I too was in the 18th century...that and our duraflame logs, diet coke, crank flashlights and fleece jackets ; )

It got pretty cold in our poorly insulated house and I even took the kids out to the car a few times to warm up with the heater. It snowed in some parts of southern California today. Glad to have the lights back on. Feeling fancy.

You all know we are nerds, but we recently got much, much
cooler upon joining the world of birds. Nope, it's not just for
aged aristocrats. It's also for the youngish and poor! Go sign
up on this site (pronto) and join us in the fun of finding new birds
and being in the great outdoors. Noah can even ID a few birds, "Mom! there's a Black Phoebe on my bike!" or "Mom! what is that scrub jay doing?"
It is seriously so fun and will totally change the way you see the world. It's amazing all of the things around us we had never taken notice of.
For a good time...you know who to call.

Jordy and little red got worked on his way to the hospital this morning. J is OK, little red, not so much.
A lady ran a stop sign and this is what followed.

Good thing we put 1,500 bucks into this baby 3 weeks ago to "keep her running for a long time." Seriously though, we are just glad he wasn't hurt and that the kids weren't in the car. Wear your
seatbelts people and hug your family tight.

We made it home from our 4,000 mile trek to Alabama and back! If you ask Noah about the trip he will probably say "Remember the moth?" (some, forgettable to most, moth he saw the 1st day there) or "Lady says NO smoking on the plane" (referring to the woman on our plane who was arrested and slapped with a $10,000 fine for smoking in the airplane bathroom/tampering with smoke detectors) But if you were to ask me, here are some of my favorite moments...

J and I got to be part of a research study at the hospital this week. They stick you with needles, take a unit of blood and give you money. In all, it is supposed to take 2 to 2.5 hours. Lucky (hmmm if you call this lucky) for me I got to leave after only an hour and fifteen b/c they couldn't find my radial artery. 50 minutes of prodding and 2 anesthesiologists later they gave up on me. Sweet.

I was hoping to go to our local Tea Party tomorrow, but Jordy works and I doubt I'm going to brave it with infant and wild child. Go to yours if you can!! Our friend Drew flew in for the weekend and the guys went to Radiohead in LA. I was the official babysitter of the one who shares a name with son of Thom, so I was left high and dry. I guess I'll forgive him. On the way to the show they stopped by a certain mural on Sunset Blvd.

As we were reading Bob's Bedtime (as in Bob the Builder) the other night, Noah started shouting HAT! HAT! HAT! (which to me sounded more like HOT) and began running around the house like a maniac. Too tired to follow, I just sat there letting him do his thing. All of a sudden he returned with two hats, and I finally understood his excitement. The ever safe Bob was wearing his hard hat in the book and N thought we should be doing the same. Check out how redneck

In other storytime news... we had to retire the classic "If You Give A Mouse a Cookie" because Noah was just getting too emotional abt it. Check out this mouse's down-turned squinty eyes. To Noah, this looks like the mouse is crying. So the whole time I'm trying to make it thru this book he just pets the mouse saying "cry, cry." I told him the mouse is OK and actually stoked to be eating cookies and milk but I don't think he's buying it.

It was just a little earthquake, but still pretty cool and a tad scary. The house shook like something big exploded nearby. I'm hoping to become a total earthquake nerd and am already tracking them around our area. They happen like everyday, multiple times! Check it... The one I felt was the 2.6 in Redlands.

St George

We went to a quasi-family reunion in St George the other weekend. It was a whirlwind of a trip but SUPER fun. We blew threw Vegas to tie up some loose ends at our old house and sign a will, then headed down for some fun with Jordy's family. It was a lot of hanging out at the pool and at night we went to plays at TUACAHN (an amazing outdoor amphitheater). Jordy saw Les Miserables and I went to Sound of Music (we took turns babysitting). The backdrop is just the back of a mountain...pretty awesome facility in the middle of nowhere.
J also turned 30 on the trip. WOOT! WOOT! His mom ran down and got him a cake and the family all got to give him birthday wishes. Very sweet.
OK, so the "heroes of the trip" award goes to Max and Sean (Noah's cousins)!! They were so sweet to let Noah tag along. Noah was in HEAVEN with these older boys paying attention to him, and it sure made the vacation easier on me : )

Primus sure knew what they were talking about when they sang "Ive been to hell. I spell it...i spell it dmv Anyone thats been there knows precisely what I mean" Terrible song, but oh so true. We are glad to be done with the move and have moved on to working out all the kinks that go along with it. DMV, gas leaks, flat tires in UHAULs (and waiting 3 hrs on the freeway for the mechanic--poor jordy), plumbing issues, etc...are all slowly untangling. We love, love our new place! Its got a ginormous backyard that we can't wait to pay the water bill on...but when it produces apples, figs, persimmons, tangerines, oranges and avocados you pretty much can't complain. Anyone itching for a game of horseshoe, come stop by our pit.

Playdough and Puking and Toms, Oh My!!

Yep, I'm officially a mom. I made homemade playdough today, and you got to admit...
nothing says "mom" like that. I was going to put the recipe up, but the stuff, as awesome as
it was when I made it, was pretty worthless the second time around. Noah had his 15 minutes
of fun though, so all is right in the world.

The days leading up to all of this playdough fun, however; were plagued with, well, the plague.
Noah was more sick than he's ever been and it was a pretty long 4 days. Pedialyte-filled medicine droppers replaced our dreams and Disney movies consumed our days. Our sweet
shorty, at 18months barely weighs in at 20lbs so we were pretty scared abt his weight and dehydration, but The Destroying Angel has passed and he's back to his old self!

The Match has spoken- We are going to spend the next 4 yrs in California for Jordy's Medical Residency!!

We went to California to check out the hospital where Jordan will be working and spent Easter with all the cousins. Here is Noah quickly heading for a sugar coma, post Easter basket.

The 1sr weekend of April the whole Turner Clan gathered in Utah to celebrate/remember Talmage. We stayed a couple nights up in Park City and it snowed like 12 inches!!! At least that's what it seemed like to me, meteorological meg. You should have seen us Desert Dwellers walking around jacketless and in sandals. Such nerds. Little man wasn't much for the snow, but had a blast "jumping" into the indoor pool.
